a Japanese folktale told by Knucklehead Puppets

Starring a poor, old wood-chopper, this well-known and loved Japanese folktale with its universal qualities comes to life onstage.  Will the poor, old wood-chopper come to some harm from his greedy neighbor?  Will he and his wife starve when he loses his only ax in a mysterious pond?  And how can he possibly chop wood to earn money after this misfortune?  Then the incredible Water Goddess rises from the deep before him...

"The Golden Ax" is a hand puppet show created to allow your audience to enter into the smaller world onstage.  Children learn a Japanese refrain to call out and encourage the wood-chopper. Drawing upon her childhood years in Japan, the puppeteer deftly weaves both tale and culture into a stellar performance for your audience.
